Gothic fashion has been a huge trend throughout 2012. Though hints towards the gothic look are embraced in many people’s winter wardrobes, this year it didn’t stop when the sun came out. Aran jumpers have been making the rounds in winter fashion for a few years now. Also known as cable knit, the jumpers originate from the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland and date back to the 17th century. Even today they are typically associated with Irish children’s clothing, being practical and easy for mothers to knit.
Band t-shirts have been a way of showing support to musicians for decades, marking the wearer as a member of whatever scene they conform to. Especially popular in the 1980’s, fans associated with rock, metal and grunge sub-cultures frequently wore their favourite band’s merchandise to make a statement against mainstream trends. Though generally associated with male metal fans, women have been wearing band t-shirts for a while now, and are partly responsible for 2012’s grunge fashion obsession.
Nordic style has been big in Britain for a while. From high street brands like H&M and Cheap Monday, to high end Acne and Filippa K. However, these names may not be the first thing that springs to mind when Scandinavia is mentioned, so much as those dreaded jumpers your Nan would knit for you at Christmas.

Jackets have been around for years, taking all different shapes and forms to fit current trends, but lately, it’s not just been jackets taking the forefront – leather shorts are taking over.
